In 2022, Deryn Collier collaborated to customize a staff training program on Motivational Interviewing (MI) for a non-profit in the employment services sector.

The project objectives were to:

  • Develop specific course content that was relevant to the organization’s work.
  • Equip staff with essential MI skills.
  • Integrate MI into onboarding processes.
  • Minimize external training expenses.

DCTC played a pivotal role in developing the 8-hour MI course, including:

  • Creating employment sector-specific case studies;
  • Developing MI-consistent dialogue scripts;
  • Producing supplemental audio content;
  • Designing training activities suitable for on-line delivery;
  • Editing the 5-part course handbook;
  • Supporting on-line course facilitation.

While the project was an organizational priority, implementation was impacted by internal capacity. DCTC’s support ensured project progress and timely delivery.

As a result, the organization successfully delivered the in-house MI training three times within 12 months, enhancing staff capabilities and operational efficiency.
