In 2022, Deryn Collier collaborated to customize a staff training program on Motivational Interviewing (MI) for a non-profit in the employment services sector.
The project objectives were to:
- Develop specific course content that was relevant to the organization’s work.
- Equip staff with essential MI skills.
- Integrate MI into onboarding processes.
- Minimize external training expenses.
DCTC played a pivotal role in developing the 8-hour MI course, including:
- Creating employment sector-specific case studies;
- Developing MI-consistent dialogue scripts;
- Producing supplemental audio content;
- Designing training activities suitable for on-line delivery;
- Editing the 5-part course handbook;
- Supporting on-line course facilitation.
While the project was an organizational priority, implementation was impacted by internal capacity. DCTC’s support ensured project progress and timely delivery.
As a result, the organization successfully delivered the in-house MI training three times within 12 months, enhancing staff capabilities and operational efficiency.
